The Unicorn and the Wasp
Am I the only person who thought that Agatha Christie would make a fabulous companion for The Doctor? I could watch Fenella Woolgar all day.
What a shame the rest of the show was a weak pastiche of the country house mystery genre, with the slowest car chase in all Christendom. Still, if it gets eleven year-olds off Harry Potter onto Dame Agatha's stuff, it won't be wasted effort.
So next week we have Eurovision madness--I have dread visions of Dustin the Turkey winning--followed by a big dollop of Moffaty goodness.

" why would you lie about something dumb like that...? "
i got a bit fed up of seeing them potatoes every time i looked at my livejournal - so here's an ole drawing of iron man instead

it was done way back in 1993 for tony lee's marvel masterworks zine - i might colour it in one day - but should he be the grey or gold version...?
( i loved the iron man movie, btw )
there's always someone worse off than yourself dept: spare a thought for me tomorrow evening as i'm off to see roger waters doing the dark side of the moon at the o2 arena

the warmth does remain
I've just read the text of Nick's remarks from the funeral.
(A hard-copy scan was e-mailed to me, along with some Web-page stuff about Steve, by my sister Debbie in Bedford, who received the material, as promised, from Steve's sister Melanie. Debbie met Melanie for the first time recently in the shop where Melanie works.)
An eloquent tribute, Nick; thanks.
And thanks to Mel and Debbie for passing it along.

Cheap Trick?
No, not the rock band. It's the disguise pulled off in this week's Animal Pens update.

Daddy's Sauce
Time for a more considered view of The Doctor's Daughter...
Plus sides:
- Georgia Moffett.
- A generational war just a week old.
- Georgia Moffett.
- The Doctor's reticence to talk about his family.
- Georgia Moffett.
- The Doctor founding a civilization on the myth of the man who said no to violence.
- Georgia Moffett.
- Donna's l33t temping skillz save the day--a welcome return to the 'little people make a difference' vibe of the Ecclestone series.
- Jenny is the female Ace Rimmer.
Down sides:
- Nigel Terry's wurzel accent.
- Pods that can produce clones with perfect eyeliner.
- Everyone, but EVERYONE in Doctor Who handles weapons like a girl. Can someone PLEASE give these actors some weapons training?
- Seven day old rust.
- The source.
- Messianic woo-peddling.
- Total bollocks paradox.
- Doctor Jones can't do a thing to save Jenny??! We could have had at least five seconds of ER-style effort at resuscitation!
- Jenny is the female Ace Rimmer.
I'm not usually disposed towards blondes, but I'll make an exception for Little Ms. Moffett. She's officially 'something for the dads'.
